According to international hygiene standards, Putumayo will have its own surgical facility from this month. In case of emergency, you will not have to travel another four hours to a nearby hospital. This facility will save lives, we have no doubt about that. Andrea Meuleman, the next doctor who will work vol Andrea Meuleman, the next doctor who will work voluntarily at San Miguel Hospital for 6 months, will run a half marathon at the Leekster Lenteloop on March 16. Her goal in running these 21 km is to raise €3,945, which is enough to cover running costs such as electricity, water and cleaning products for three months. The clinical laboratory of Hospital San Miguel is The clinical laboratory of Hospital San Miguel is the proud owner of a fluorescent microscope! Thomas Hanscheid, a physician and professor of microbiology at the Microbiology Institute of the University of Lisbon, recently visited our hospital and saw the need for fluorescent microscopy to improve diagnostics within our laboratory. With this microscopy, owned by Thomas, we can now diagnose tuberculosis with much higher sensitivity. In addition, fluorescent microscopy also makes it possible to identify bacteria and parasites in urine and stool samples. Hospital San Miguel has officially been accepted a Hospital San Miguel has officially been accepted as a new A2CARES research site in Ecuador. A2CARES is one of the ten research centers that together form the CREID (Centers for Research in Emerging Infectious Diseases ) network, dedicated to addressing critical research areas in emerging infectious diseases and development of regional scientific expertise and research capacity. Numbers are increasing at Hospital San Miguel. Las Numbers are increasing at Hospital San Miguel. Last year we saw almost 5,000 patients in our outpatient clinic and emergency department. Many children and quite some emergencies and pregnant women.
