It is truly incredible: almost three weeks before

It is truly incredible: almost three weeks before the start of the run in Linschoten we have already passed our goal: €6,000!!! Thanks to many of you, we have raised enough money to pay the salary of one of our nurses for six months. BUT! Let's raise more!! All proceeds from this charity event will be used to support our nurses' salaries. If you wanted to donate but haven't done so yet, do it now! On Saturday 23rd of December a total of 14 athlete

On Saturday 23rd of December a total of 14 athletes will be at the start of the Linschoten Run! They will run or walk various distances from 10 to 21.1km to raise money for the running costs of the San Miguel Hospital. This event is organized by Esther and Ivar, who will travel to Ecuador in the start of 2024 to support the hospital for 6 months.

Today is a special day: it is the 2nd anniversary of Hospital San Miguel!! Exactly two years ago, the very first patient came in seeking medical help. Since then, there have been more than nine thousand outpatient consultations and more than fifty hospital admissions in our newly opened inpatient department. Yesterday, just after a heavy thunderstorm which was actually truly refreshing, the first runners of the 3th official Carrera de Putumayo started running. 21k, 5k and a 1k for children. Again, it was a very beautiful day running together with many people form Puerto el Carmen and our own staff. Gladys, one of our auxiliary nurses, recently started her studies to become a registered nurse. Funded by the GNAP foundation, she will study at the weekends and continue to work at Hospital San Miguel during the week. It was always Gladys' dream to become a nurse. During the recent dengue outbreak, Victor develope

During the recent dengue outbreak, Victor developed complications after being infected with the dengue virus and had to be hospitalized. Besides the fact that we were able to give him the care he needed, his admission to our hospital was very special: Victor went as a child to the boarding school the first year after the opening. Now, 63 years later, he is hospitalized in the same building. The renovation of six departments in the enclosed

The renovation of six departments in the enclosed garden of the hospital has now been completed! Two double departments and four single departments, each with their own bathroom, provide safe and comfortable accommodation for local staff and (local) volunteers. The shared kitchen offers a cozy environment for cooking and eating while looking out of the window and see the monkeys swing by in the garden. #renovation #quinacare #volunteers #hospitalsanmiguel #putumayo #puertoelcarmen

Julio was hospitalized for almost a week in Hospit

Julio was hospitalized for almost a week in Hospital San Miguel. He came in with a catheter which he had for over weeks, very high levels of blood glucose and an impressive infections of his urinary tract. He recovered well and after a week he left the hospital in a much better condition and without a catheter. We are proud to present Baukje Zaaijer is the new

We are proud to present Baukje Zaaijer is the new ambassador of Quina Care. She is replacing Floris van der Sman who we are very thankful for his efforts. Baukje, who recently started with a specialization to become a pediatrician, already visited Hospital San Miguel when the renovation works still had to get started. When the hospital just opened she visited again. She already did many efforts to raise money for Quina Care with one of her largest: a marathon in Groningen to raise money to buy antivenom for snakebites. Hospital San Miguel invites women from the Putumayo canton and its surroundings to participate in the HPV Campaign (Human Papilloma Virus). If you are between 30 and 65 years old, you can take the test to detect this virus in a personalized way (AND TOTALLY FREE). When positive for an infection with the virus, there is an indication for a Papanicolaou (cytology).
